Frazer Nash built pre-war and post-war sports cars. They were also the U.K. distributor for BMW in the 1930s. This is a post-war sports car, obviously, as it’s from the early 1950s. The last Frazer Nash cars were built in 1957, which was about eight years before Archibald Frazer-Nash died.
In 1948, the company built a car called the Fast Tourer, which was also the name of a pre-war model. This morphed almost immediately into the Mille Miglia model, of which 11 were built through 1953. Power is provided by a 2.0-liter Bristol inline-six that made somewhere between 110 and 126 horsepower depending on the compression ratio.
This car was damaged in the 1960s or ’70s, spending a period in storage after that. A restoration that started in the late 1970s dragged on for decades, eventually being completed around 2005. You can read more about it here.
The Mille Miglia version of the B was powered by a 2.3-liter inline-six fitted with triple Solex carburetors for a rating of 95 horsepower. It was essentially the best version of the model. Only 107 examples of the 2300 B Mille Miglia were produced, most looking like this or the Touring-bodied convertible counterpart.
This car has known ownership history back to 1946, showing time spent in Switzerland, France, and the Netherlands before coming stateside in 2008. While this car won’t carry the nearly $20 million dollar price tag of an 8C Lungo, it still won’t come cheap. Click here for more info.

The BMW 328 is one of the best pre-war sports cars. It has racing pedigree, superb styling and enough power from its 2.0 liter 80 horsepower straight six to make it always entertaining. Constructed from 1936 until the war halted production in 1940, a total of 463 of these gorgeous machines were built. The 328 won its class in the 1938 Mille Miglia and won the race outright in 1940.
With less than 500 of them around, they don’t come up for sale all that often. But, it’s one of those cars that, if you’re a serious collector, you just have to have one. It is the pre-war BMW to own… in fact, it’s one of very few BMWs that are incredibly collectible (the 507 and M1 both come to mind as well).
It’s just such a wonderful design – those wheels like they came off a period truck. And white, I think, is the best color. The pre-sale estimate on this car is $500,000-$650,000. Worth it. More info here with more on the auction here.
