The first generation of the Bentley Continental GT entered production in 2003. The original engine was Bentley’s kind of insane W12 powerplant. A V8 joined the lineup for the second generation, and both engines carried over to the third gen, which debuted in 2017. Bentley also announced that the W12 would cease production after 2024.

Bentley had some special editions of the Continental GT ready to celebrate, but perhaps the biggest celebration would be this car: the limited-production Bacalar, which is a coachbuilt special built by Mulliner. It retains the 650-horsepower, twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter W12 of the Continental GT it is based upon.

Just 12 of these were built, and this is the final one. The car does not have a roof, and it’s not legal in the U.S. This one is here on a “show or display” exemption and will cost its next owner between $2,200,000-$2,700,000. Click here for more info.

Offered by RM Sotheby’s | Monaco | May 2024

Recently, as Lamborghini gets ready to sunset a model, they launch limited-production “models” which are really just variations on the model that is ending. First it was the Murcielago and the Reventon. Now that the Aventador is done, Lambo rolled out a few special edition sub models.

The Countach, which is obviously named after their car of the ’70s and ’80s, is based on the Sian FKP 37, which itself is based on the Aventador. The Countach was built in 2022, with 112 produced. Power is provided by a 6.5-liter V12 with a mild hybrid set up and all-wheel drive. Output was rated at 802 horsepower. Top speed is 221 mph.

Is as the case with such cars, they sell out more or less immediately. There are a few on the market, but this, I believe, is the first one announced at an auction. Only five were finished in this color, and this is the only one with this interior combo. The estimate is $2,050,000-$2,2450,000. Click here for more info.

AMG GT Project One

2022 Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series Project One Edition

Offered by Bonhams | Knokke-Heist, Belgium | October 8, 2023

The Mercedes-AMG Project One (or just the “ONE”) is a hypercar that has seemed to be in development forever. So while the lucky 275 folks who ordered one waited, Mercedes decided to try and keep them happy by offering them an excusive version of their getting-long-in-the-tooth AMG GT sports car.

But no base car here as the starting point was the top-tier Black Series. That means it is powered by a 720-horsepower, twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8. It has all of the aero bits that set Black Series cars apart, and, in Project One Edition spec, has a pretty awesome painted three-star motif that is excusive to this car.

Only 275 of these were built, and they were only offered to Project One orderers. More than a few have hit the market, and this one has an estimate of $425,000-$640,000. Click here for more info.

Chiron Profilee

In an effort to actually produce the full planned run of cars, supercar manufacturers tend to keep pumping out new special editions that are “must haves” for collectors/people with too much money to keep for a short time before moving on to something else. Bugatti is no different, as there were quite a few different versions of the Chiron, despite production being limited to only 500 units across the board.

So Bugatti set out to create one, which they called the Profilee. It has some aerodynamic updates, including a pretty cool rear wing/spoiler thing in the center. It’s powered by the quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 engine as the other Chirons are, with 1,479 horsepower available like the Pur Sport model. It got revised gearing and an increased redline, which enabled it to hit a limited top speed of 236 mph.

The Profilee never even made it to production, as the Chiron’s 500 units were spoken for before they got it finalized, so this was the only such example completed. RM is offering it on a bill of sale, presumably because it’s never been registered. I’d wish the buyer good luck, but they’re never going to drive it anyway. It’ll either get locked away somewhere or flipped at auction/sold privately about 18 months from now. Click here for more info.

Update: Sold $10,866,247.

Acura Daytona Prototype

2022 Acura ARX-05 DPi

Offered by Bring a Trailer Auctions | December 2022

Honda Performance Development entered the prototype race car arena in 2007 in the American Le Man Series. They badged the cars as Acuras and HPDs, depending on the market in which they were running. The ARX-05 debuted at the 2018 24 Hours of Daytona.

This particular car was assembled by Wayne Taylor Racing in preparation for the 2022 running of the Daytona 24. It’s powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 making somewhere in the neighborhood of 600 horsepower.

2022 saw ARX-05s campaigned by Wayne Taylor Racing and Meyer Shank Racing, the former with Konica Minolta sponsorship as shown here. This car grabbed the pole at Daytona and won four races that season with drivers Ricky Taylor and Felipe Albuquerque. It’s now being sold by HPD themselves. There’s only a few days left to bid. Click here for more info.

Update: Not sold, high bid of $563,000.
