2021 Bugatti Chiron Sport Noire

The “Sport” version of the Bugatti Chiron debuted in 2018, about two years after the base Chiron went on sale. The Sport shared the base car’s mechanicals: a 1,480-horsepower, quad-turbocharged, 8.0-liter W16. What differentiated it was it’s “track focus.” It was about 40 pounds lighter… on a two-ton car. So a rounding error. But hey, they got to charge more.

The Noire was an available package that could be had on the Chiron or Chiron Sport. It specified either an exposed carbon-fiber body or a carbon fiber body with a matte black finish, which is what this car has. The edition was to celebrate the Bugatti Type 57SC Coupe Aero of 1936.

Only 20 cars would be built this way, split however they were sold between Chiron/Chiron Sport. This car now has an estimate of $3,300,000-$3,800,000. Click here for more info.

Aston V12 Speedster

Aston Martin loves them some special editions of their popular cars. In this case, the base car was the current generation of the Vantage, but with the twin-turbocharged 5.2-liter V12 from the DBS Superleggera stuffed under the front hood (this also necessitated the use of, basically, the DBS’s front clip to accommodate the engine). Remember, this car came out before the V12 Vantage debuted.

Output was rated at 690 horsepower, which is about 25 less than the DBS. The styling was inspired by the DBR1 that won Le Mans in 1959. It’s a two-seater with no windscreens or top, but it does have two little pods behind the headrests to store helmets.

Just 88 were built, and this car is #61. It has an estimate of $850,000-$1,150,000. More info can be found here.

GT Carbon Series

The second generation of the Ford GT was sold between the 2017 and 2022 model years. If you bought one new, Ford forced you to sign an agreement that you wouldn’t sell it for two years. Or, more so, they put a lien on the car that they would satisfy after exactly two years. If you sold it early, Ford would sue you. The best way around this was to register it to an LLC and then just sell the LLC.

Anyway, this race-bred street car features a whole lot of fancy technology that is backed by a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 that made 660 horsepower. Various special editions were offered, and this is a “Carbon Series,” which was actually a lightweight package that added gloss carbon-fiber wheels and exterior trim among other things.

It’s unclear how many of these “Carbon Series” cars were built, but Ford planned a run of 1,350 GTs total for this generation. These have been trading hands for over a million since they hit the resale market in 2019, and the bidding on this one is a dollar below that figure as of this writing. Click here for more info.

Nissan GT-R50

2021 Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign

Nissan‘s R35 GT-R has been on sale for what seems like forever. And the new ones look pretty much just like the examples produced back in 2009. Unless that is, your GT-R is one of the 18 “GT-R50” examples with bodywork by Italdesign.

And it’s not just the angular bodywork that is different. The twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 received better pistons and fuel injectors in addition to a fresh exhaust system for a rating of 710 horsepower.

This is the 11th car built (they wanted to make 50, but only 18 made it out). They cost over $1 million when new, and this one now has an estimate of $1,000,000-$1,200,000. Click here for more info.

Another day, another insane supercar. The Chiron was Volkswagen – er, Bugatti’s follow-up to the impossible-to-top Veyron. Well it topped it. And then they went and made it more extreme with a series of special and high-end editions.

The Chiron launched in 2016 and used an updated version of the Veyron’s quad-turbocharged 8.0-lite W16 that in Chiron spec put out 1,479 horsepower. The Pur Sport got a redline increase and a revised gearbox.

Introduced in 2020, the Pur Sport was supposedly limited to 60 units. It is described as a “handling-focused variant” with lightweight components, a fixed rear wing, a pretty crazy wheel design that pulls air into the rear diffuser, and, somehow, stickier tires.

This example is finished in a pretty awesome two-tone color scheme – inside and out. The price is eye watering so far, with the bidding already at $3.7 million at the time of this writing. More can be read about it here.

Iso Rivolta GTZ

2021 Iso Rivolta GTZ

Iso is a name that goes back to some pretty sleek sports cars (or proto-supercars) of the 1960s and 1970s. They also produced what I’ve always considered to be Italian muscle cars, in addition to the original Isetta. The brand was revived in 2017 in collaboration with Zagato to introduce a Vision Gran Turismo prototype.

That led to a project dubbed the GT Zagato, or GTZ. The Rivolta family is still behind the cars, which are designed and built by Zagato. It’s based on a C7 Corvette Z06, but has a completely unique carbon-fiber body and shares no exterior bits with the Corvette, glass included. The supercharged 6.2-liter Z06 V8 makes 660 horsepower, enough to propel this very A3/C-esque design to 185 mph.

These are technically still in production, I guess, and in the last year they’ve built 19 of them. This is apparently the only one imported and registered in the U.S. Click here for more info and here for more from Mecum.
